Helene Properties is a combination of Casa Helene and Villa Helene, and together they have 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. These co-located properties share a fully walled courtyard, a barn, and gardens. As well as providing a large party [9 – 12 guests] with a fantastic base for a sun-soaked holiday – our log burners make these properties a great choice for a winter break too!
Both Casa and Villa Helene, which have recently been renovated to a high standard, lie in the heart of Central Portugal, on the edge of a small quiet village called Vale de Vide; surrounded by forests and is the perfect place to get away from it all and completely unwind. Many describe this area as the ‘Real Portugal’, it is an area of outstanding natural beauty. In the local villages, families still rear their own animals and tend to their grape vines, crops and olive trees following the same traditions as their ancestors have for centuries before them.

There are two private accesses to the properties, which have five doors opening onto the private walled courtyard. This courtyard, which can only be used by the rental party contains, as well as other things, the above-ground plunge pool. There is also a large, raised, fully tiled patio. This area is ideal for both some serious sunbathing and for dining al-fresco. At the sheltered end of the patio is an fully functional bread oven, a washing machine, fridge/freezer and outside sink.
There is a large open-ended barn in which the seasoned logs for the log burners are stored. The rest of the barn is used for private storage and should not be entered.
Under the barn is the storage room which contains all the things you will need to complete your holiday i.e.
The gardens contain a number of mature fruit trees, we have figs, olives, cherry, peach and persimmon. You are welcome to pick any ripe fruit to eat or cook!
There is sufficient parking space at Helene Properties for four cars. We believe a car is essential to explore and enjoy everything this area has to offer
LAYOUT and RENTAL POLICY
As our guests you will enjoy exclusive use of all of the property you have rented, the courtyard and the gardens. The only time that both properties will be rented at the same time is when a large party books both properties.
As an example, if a small party books Casa Helene, then Villa Helene will remain closed and visa versa.

THE LOCAL TOWN
Vale de Vide is 7 km away from Mortagua where you will find all of the amenities you could need. Train station, banks, outdoor swimming pool, supermarkets, restaurants, shops, bars and parks. While, hopefully, you will not need them, it is reassuring to know that there is both a medical and dental centre in Mortagua.
Mortagua train station has links to the Cities of Coimbra, Porto, Lisbon and Madrid amongst many other destinations! The town is just a 45 minute drive from the University City of Coimbra
THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY
Helene Properties lies on the edge of a small sleepy village and is surrounded by a eucalyptus forest. This ensures your stay will be calm and peaceful. For those who are more energetic the forest offers many miles of walking trails.
A ten minute walk [uphill] or a 2 minute car ride takes you to Barracao where there are two restaurants, a bar and a three general stores. These are truly local establishments i.e. you will need a little Portuguese or your phrase book handy to order anything!
Helene Properties is an ideal base for a wide range of activities and sightseeing opportunities. You will be spoilt for choice with the selection of destinations to enjoy on your trips out, including the University City of Coimbra (for shoppers and lovers of architecture), the broad white sandy beaches of the Silver Coast to the west and to the East, the highest mountains in Portugal at Serra da Estrela.
